Overview

Organizes and plans arts & crafts activities for students with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plans arts & crafts activities (including special seasonal activities) for students, which are designed to improve fine motor skills, facilitate self-expression and develop awareness of self and other people and things.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the physical and mental limitations of each student and plans activities to accommodate these limitations.
  • Performs additional related duties as requested by supervisor.
  • Ensure that work-related safety procedures are in place and are being adhered to by staff.
  • Report all incidents to the Nurse and Program Coordinator
  • Maintain a safe environment for the students
  • Responsible for the supervision of assistant counselors during art
  • Responsible for the organization of assigned group when asked to cover a room as a substitute
  • Set up art activities and make a sample for the students to visualize what they are making

Observance of an unsafe act or potentially hazardous work environment must be immediately reported to a supervisor and/or safety committee.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Prior experience working with students with developmental disabilities preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in arts and crafts activities.

Must be able to lift and/or transfer a child/adult student.
