- Ensure that all students are dressed, undressed and ready for pool, provide each student with a life jacket, and be actively involved with the students in the pool.
- Assist students in any and all activities, which are designed to foster independence, personal growth and development, social maturity and normalization as requested by the lifeguard.
- Be responsible that communication is shared among appropriate staff members to ensure proper high quality care and service be provided to the students. The lifeguard must be informed immediately of all pool aides concerns.
- Provide ongoing care for the students in a safe, kind and considerate manner. Under no
circumstances should students be sexually, verbally or physically abused, restrained or isolated.
- Report any incidents, injuries, seizures and any changes in the student’s physical condition to the Program Nurse and/or Program Supervisor or Assistant Director immediately.
- Responsible for keeping the area surrounding the pool free of debris.
- Make daily inspections of all life saving equipment to ensure that it is in place and in good condition. Report any defect to the lifeguard on duty and to the Assistant Director and/or
Program Supervisor.
- Assure that the spine board and first aid kits are at poolside. The first aid kit must be restocked as necessary. The Program Nurse is to be notified when additional supplies are needed.
- Assure that the signs containing the rules and regulations are prominently posted, are in reasonable condition and are complied with. These signs should be checked daily.
- Attend staff and/or other meetings as designated by administration.
- Perform other related duties assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Program Supervisor that are appropriate for the well- being and safety of the students.

Ensure that work-related safety procedures are in place and are being adhered to by staff. Observance of an unsafe act or a potentially hazardous work environment must be immediately reported to a supervisor.
